The 3-A SSI Dr. Ron Schmidt Student Travel Award may be your ticket to the 3-A SSI 2025 Summit on Hygienic Design.
The 3-A SSI Dr. Ron Schmidt Student Travel Award honors the late Dr. Ronald H. Schmidt, one of the founders of 3-A SSI.
Internationally recognized as a leading expert on food safety and hygienic design, Dr. Schmidt was the author of dozens of published scientific papers and numerous books. His teaching career at the University of Florida Food Science and Human Nutrition Department spanned nearly 40 years.
Dr. Schmidt was a passionate advocate for students and the value of encouraging those in the food sciences to learn about hygienic equipment and food safety.
About the Award
The 3-A SSI Dr. Ron Schmidt Student Travel Award helps motivated, career-oriented students attend and participate in the 3-A SSI Summit on Hygienic Design, happening this year May 6 to 8 at the Marriot Chicago O’Hare.
The travel award covers airfare, transfers, hotel lodging, and meals at the event, as well as the registration fee.
In addition, award recipients are invited to bring a poster or technical paper from their field of interest/research for public display in a designated area outside the meeting rooms.
Who Should Apply
Students with a demonstrated interest in and commitment to food safety and quality are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a food technology, food science, dairy science, or other closely related program (undergraduate or graduate level).
Students must be studying at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada at the time of the application deadline.
How to apply
Interested students should download and complete the application packet. It must be received no later than March 14.
The application requires a personal essay and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or department head.
